Dr. Andrew Peacock: Adventurer, Traveller, Photographer, and Doctor.

This Week we look at some of the wonderful and varied photography of Dr. Andrew Peacock, successful, talented and prominent Lonely Planet Images Photographer.

Born in Adelaide, Australia in 1967, Andrew developed a passion for outdoor adventure while living in California in 1993 when he discovered rock climbing. The excitement of his first alpine climb in the Sierra mountains prompted a change of priorities in his life, from the demands of a full time surgical resident to those of a dedicated climber. Around the same time he decided to take his photography hobby more seriously. Inspired by the wonderful images and technical mastery of Galen Rowell and spurred on by getting one of his photos published in a US climbing magazine he began photographing in earnest while combining his skills as a doctor and climber to find ways to explore new corners of the globe. Following a period of voluntary medical work in the Himalaya of Nepal and India he returned to Australia armed with rolls of undeveloped slide film that eventually formed the basis of his first submission to Lonely Planet Images. As an active climber, paddler and mountaineer his images aim to capture the action, lifestyle, locations and landscapes of adventure travel around the world. His work has been published in numerous Lonely Planet book titles, Australian Geographic publications, Patagonia's highly regarded outdoor clothing catalog and was featured in National Geographic Traveler Magazine's "50 Places of a Lifetime: The World's Greatest Destinations". In 2008 Andrew won the 'Call of the Wild' portfolio category in the internationally recognized Travel Photographer Of The Year awards - regarded as the definitive travel photography competition. When not enjoying life on the road he lives with his wife on the beautiful Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia.
